Dust suppression for Australian mines and quarries

On Australian sites two constraints dominate every dust decision: water is expensive to get to the site, and nobody is available to babysit a system.

Fix the source, save the water

Every litre that evaporates uselessly is a litre that had to be carted. Source control is the same engineering everywhere, and it is where the saving is:

  • Lances and ring manifolds at crusher discharges, transfer points and screen decks.
  • Zone control so only the working area is sprayed — a plant that sprays the whole yard all day is spending water on empty space.
  • Dust, wind or activity triggers, which stop the system when the material stream stops.
  • Filtration (5 μm) designed for the site water, because blocked nozzles on a remote site mean a long trip.

Designed for remote maintenance

On a remote site, the maintenance interval is a cost multiplier, so we specify for it: sealed, easily cleaned filter housings; stainless nozzles with ruby orifices that hold their pattern (published service life 2 years or more); solenoid valves that can be changed without disturbing pipework; and a spare-parts kit shipped with the system so the first failure does not stop the plant.

Monitoring and records

Where dust monitoring applies on site, the useful configuration is a system triggered by the monitor rather than by a clock: suppression runs when dust is detected, and the control log shows when it ran. Our published performance figure is PM10 reduction of 70% or more for correctly designed source control. Confirm the applicable limits and reporting requirements with your environmental team — we supply equipment and layout drawings, not compliance certification.

Questions

Common questions — Australia & New Zealand

Can the system run from a site water tank?

Yes — that is the normal arrangement on remote sites. We size the tank from your duty cycle and nozzle count so refills match your water delivery schedule.

How cold can it operate?

The published ambient operating range for these systems extends below freezing with frost protection. For sites that see hard frost, outdoor lines are specified with drain points or trace heating.

What about haul road dust?

Keep haul roads on a water cart or a dedicated road line. Mist-based suppression is at its most efficient at fixed material handling points, where it prevents dust rather than chasing it.
