Dust suppression

What does a dust suppression system cost on a construction site?

On site, price is set by how many dust sources you have to treat — not by the size of the site on the drawings.

What you are paying for

Dust is generated at points, not everywhere. The price tracks the points.

  • Dust sources: crusher, transfer points, screening deck, stockpiles, haul roads, demolition face. Each needs nozzles aimed at it — a ring manifold, a lance bank or a fog cannon.
  • Layout and pipe runs: distance from the pump room to the farthest nozzle decides pipe diameter and pump size.
  • Automation: manual start is cheapest; wind or dust-sensor trigger, PLC interlock with the crusher, and zone scheduling all add cost — and all reduce water use.
  • Site conditions: outdoor-rated pipe, corrosion protection and freeze protection in winter climates.

Where sites waste money

We see the same three mistakes repeatedly.

  • Buying a fog cannon for a fixed source. Cannons are for large open areas and haul roads; for a crusher discharge, fixed lances at the source do the same job for a fraction of the cost.
  • Treating the whole area instead of the source. Misting the entire yard uses water and gets less dust control than five correctly aimed nozzles.
  • Ignoring water quality. Hard or dirty water without filtration is the main cause of clogged nozzles on industrial sites; the 5 μm filter is not optional.

What to send for a quotation

A site plan with dust sources marked, the available water supply and pressure, power available, and whether the system should interlock with existing equipment. With those four, we return an itemised quotation: pump unit, nozzle assemblies, pipework, controls, spares and freight as separate lines — so you can stage the investment if the budget is tight.

Questions

What does a dust suppression system cost on a construction site — the questions behind it

Will misting make the site muddy?

No — the opposite. Water mist uses a fraction of the volume of a sprinkler or water cart, and the droplets evaporate while binding dust, so surfaces stay workable instead of turning into mud.

Can it be triggered automatically?

Yes. Wind, dust or vibration-linked triggers and PLC interlocks with crushers or conveyors are available, so suppression runs when dust is generated rather than all day.

Does the water have to be clean?

It has to be filtered. A 5 μm inlet filter protects the nozzles; where water is hard or carries fines, we specify a larger filter and a cleaning interval as part of the quotation.
