Mosquito control

Is a mosquito misting system safe for children and pets?

Safety comes from four things: what is in the tank, how it is diluted, when the system runs, and where the nozzles point. All four are design decisions, not luck.

The four controls that make it safe

A misting system is not a fog of undiluted chemical. It is a short, scheduled cycle of a diluted mixture, and each of these decisions is made with your site in mind.

  • Formulation: plant-derived and low-odour options exist for residential gardens; the label is what governs, and we supply the safety data sheet for any chemistry we ship.
  • Dilution: 1:50–1:100 concentrate-to-water is set at the tank, not left to guesswork.
  • Timing: cycles are scheduled when the area is normally empty — the published pattern is 5–10 minutes every 2–4 hours, and dawn and dusk are the mosquito-active windows.
  • Placement: nozzles sit on fences and boundaries at low level and point inward, away from play equipment, pet bowls, ponds and vegetable beds.

Questions to ask any supplier (including us)

If a supplier cannot answer these, stop.

  • Which concentrate is being supplied, and can I see the safety data sheet before I order?
  • What is the re-entry time after a cycle for children and pets?
  • How is the system locked or restricted so it cannot be started accidentally?
  • What happens to the schedule if the area is occupied?
  • Who is responsible for local regulatory compliance in my country?

Practical habits that keep it safe

Most risk in any misting installation comes from operation, not from the design. Keep the concentrate locked and out of reach, never mix stronger than the label, keep the system on schedule rather than "running all afternoon", and service nozzles so the pattern stays even instead of pooling in one spot.

Questions

Is a mosquito misting system safe for children and pets — the questions behind it

Can we use the garden immediately after a cycle?

Re-entry timing is set by the product label for the concentrate you use, and we state it in the commissioning guide. Following the label and the scheduled cycle is what makes the system low-risk in normal family use.

Is plant-based chemistry effective?

For residential gardens, plant-derived and low-odour formulations are widely used and give good boundary protection when the cycle schedule matches mosquito activity. The published repellency figure for our system is ≥90% under normal conditions.

What about fish ponds and bees?

Tell us. Drift-sensitive features change nozzle placement, timing and sometimes the choice of formulation, and in some cases the right answer is not to install in that part of the garden at all.
