Dust control on Indian construction and quarry sites

Indian sites are usually asked to show dust control at the points where material is handled — and to do it with less water than a tanker fleet can deliver.

What actually gets sites into trouble

In our experience the issue is rarely the absence of a control measure — it is where that measure is aimed.

  • Spraying the visible cloud instead of the generation point: mist must meet the dust at the crusher discharge or transfer chute, or it only cools the air.
  • Water availability in the dry season: a tanker-based approach depends on trips and drivers; a fixed system runs off the site supply on demand.
  • Hard or silty water: without filtration, nozzles block within weeks and the complaint becomes "the system does not work". A 5 μm inlet filter and a cleaning interval are part of the design.

A layout that suits Indian plant arrangements

Most plants we quote combine three elements, and they can be installed in stages as budget allows.

  • Lances or ring manifolds at fixed sources: crusher discharge, transfer points, screen decks — lowest water use and no diesel.
  • Perimeter or stockyard lines for wind-blown dust, switched by zone so only the working area is treated.
  • A cannon for large open areas such as load-out zones, ideally on a dust or wind trigger so it does not spray empty air.
  • Automation is optional but valuable: interlocking suppression with the crusher or conveyor start means control follows production instead of a shift routine.

Documentation and local requirements

Air quality and site dust requirements in India are set at national, state and municipal level and they change. We supply the equipment, the nozzle layout drawing, a specification sheet and a commissioning guide so your team can demonstrate what the system does and how it is operated. We do not issue compliance certificates, and we recommend confirming the applicable local requirement with your consultant before you finalise the layout.

Questions

Common questions — India & South Asia

Can the system work with intermittent water supply?

Yes, with a storage tank and booster pump sized from the duty cycle. Tell us how many hours a day the plant runs and the number of dust sources, and we size the tank so refills match the site routine.

What power does it need?

Standard units are available for 220 V single phase or 380 V three phase, 50 Hz. The pump motor range for dust suppression is 2.2–7.5 kW depending on layout.

Will it make the yard muddy?

No — the opposite. Water mist uses 4–15 L/min and evaporates while binding dust, so surfaces stay workable instead of turning into mud the way sprinklers and repeated tanker passes do.
